Direct TV Networking comes in several packages.

1. Pre Configured Direct tv Tivo Ready to go.

2. Self-install CD just load the Files to your drive.

Here's a example of my Direct tv Tivo's connected to my Home Network in detail:

First things First, Locate your router, that's the thing that all your computers are connected to and that connects to the DSL for internet access. Its best if its has wired and wireless capabilities.

 

 I have 4 Ports on the back for 4 wired devices and I can go wireless and many as I want so I will use a switch to increase my wired access to 4 more ports, a switch is like a splitter. In my case I already have the house wired, but I do have 1 location that will go wireless using a Motorola Bridge.

 

 

   

 So here's the scoop, Direct tv will not charge you for the Tivo service if you have the premium package like I do, if you have less then its only $5.00 per month no matter how many tivos you have, and they charge you $5.00 per Satellite Receiver as they always have, so my bill shows:

$99.95 - For the Premium Package ( HBO, STARZ, Encore, Movie Ch , Ect)

$30.00 for 6 Direct tv Satellite Receivers ($5.00 Each)

and $0 for the Tivo Service.

But this may be too much for you so another way is to have (2) wired Direc TV tivos (that's 2 tuners each 4 tuners total for recording shows. Then you can have (2) networked tivos in the kid's room that act like servers or players only. This way your kids can get any shows from the networked tivos and simply copy or transfer the shows to their tivo players from the other (2) tivos that are recording from the satellite.

 

 You can browse any of the networked tivos Now Showing list from your bedroom just by selecting the named tivo from your Now Showing list. If you select it you can watch it now or select several shows at the same time and they will transfer one after the other. For example if you are in your sons bedroom looking at this Tivo's Now Showing list you may want to browse the living room tivo and copy all the Power Ranger shows, just select them one at a time, press watch on this tv and they will start to transfer one after the other from the living room hard drive to his hard drive in the bedroom., That way when he get's home from school all his Power Rangers shows will now be on his drive where he can watch, keep for later or delete.

Each TiVo has its own IP address. You can use Tivo WEB like this: Go To your computers web browser and type in the IP address of the tivo you want to address http://192.168.1.113 or whatever your tivos IP address is.

 

You can also install TivoDesktop 2.0 on any computer and serve up your MP3 and Photos right on the tivo.

Transfer Your NOW SHOWING from TiVo directly to your computer Burn to DVD -

Streaming shows to your computer -

When you are in the TiVo Web under User Interface / Now Showing on the very right of each show listing you will see a view button Clicking on this will open up your Windows Media player and start playing the show on your computer.

Control your Tivo over the internet. After the Tivo is connected to you network just open a internet explorer web browser and enter the Tivo's IP Address from any computer in your network. You will then be able to setup subscriptions, delete shows, and schedule recordings.
